Melody of the Soul

It has been the start of my life

and the birth of my heart.

It has sparked my interest

and left its mark.

Poetry has been a part of my life,

for many years it would seem.

It has helped me out

as a young teen.

I can cry in my words.

I can smile on my thoughts.

I can relive the hurt.

and the other feelings I fought.

In poetry I have a voice,

even if it is silent to many.

If I can hear myself speak

then this voice alone will be plenty.

Poetry has affected my gaze on life;

it has shifted my eyes and heart.

It has given me a chance

to see through the dark.

No matter what happens

even if the world neglects me.

I will always express myself

through poetry.
