A Melody Sounds like a Memory

I think about it everyday

That melody that would play

everyday. How my heart felt,

riding

 in your car.

I never had my own.

How my heart felt,

dying.

Ready to be on my own.

The words my mother said,

my best friends, my exes

will not come with me.

The people you love the most

hurt you the worst.

Just let me be

by myself.

I don’t want no one else

to come with me.

Yet, still that melody

resonates

day after day.

In the passenger side

sighing

after a long day.

That melody will make you

want to cry

and laugh.

That melody will make you.

That melody

is all I want to come with me.
