Melting Time

What is time anyway?

A measurement, not a thing.

The hourglass is not slow or fast

Sudden or prolonged

Time does not exist.

My job becomes useless

Keeping track of the seconds.

I realize my own worthlessness.

I hope nobody else can see.

Continually I melt and drain from within

Gears deform and hands decompose

All the tic tocking is made up

Keeping it, not needed.

But I will keep what is fabricated

If only to keep from not being needed.

So I will tell all

That time is important

It is true as beams of light and shadows of dark.

Slices of paint and brushes of blur.

I am still important.
