Son, you win today, but the war is yet begun It’s the neighbors, the father and son share water The father laughs at the son wearing his cup like a dunce their basketball is left stranded in the sun The father hands his boy a gun, some dress blues The boys mother screams from in the house, please! Don’t! The boy holds the gun tightly, his arms they bulge, his height, he grows, towering over his father. The children from the pool! Man and woman now, protecting those ideals. The years move on and the dog whimpers, he wait’s. The children will be back, they promised.
