Memorial Day


I had no choice but to walk away                          

Turn my back for my own sanity                          

My action would create the worst day                                       

Your brain was stained with tragedy                     

What if I picked up the phone?                             

Blinded with tainted tar filled veins                      

Your last breath, you were alone                           

A burden my heart still contains                           

Word spread quickly and with hate                       

Your blue eyes would never luster                        

Your passing created my new fate                                                               

If I didn’t leave, would we be together                  

To this day, I think of you often,                           

Wondering what could have been
