Memories
Memories are found in this place
Memories that have written my story, woven my inner fabric, broken me down, and built me back up again.
This place has known great triumphs and heard the roars of laughter
This place has felt pain and drank in tears through the floorboards.
Here I have run as a child with open arms in the summer to greet my father exhausted from work
Here I have sat quietly at night in the cold new england air.
I am leaving soon
I am going to be a new man when I next see this place.
Do we bottle up yesterday to find our tommorow?
Do we break the dreams of our childhood down for the success of reality?
Emotions can dissolve like chalk at the end of a driveway after a summer's rainstorm.
Affections may grow dull like safety scissors in the hands of a young child.
Faces have passed within these walls.
Faces that have molded the one that I wear today.
Hearts that beat no more still beat with mine today.
Eyes that smile in deep sleep drink in the world through mine today.
My feet have grown into the floorboards
My reflection has been painted into the windows
Now it is time.
Now we must go.
Where will I be stranded in life?
What walls must be torn down?
Am I prepared?
What do I bring?
Memories.
Memories.
Memories and nothing else.
