Memories

My grandfather was a poet He passed just this year When I listen to the recordings I usually shed a tear He wasn't any kind of poet He had a rather special art For writing cowboy poetry That were always funny and smart But his poems they are memories That are oh so very dear I hold them in my heart Keeping them safe, keeping them near So I keep on writing poems Though I'm not as skilled as he His poems aren't just memories They have become a part of me
