Memories

Memories flit by through my head

Of those who once lived

But now are dead

I see their faces

And the words they spoke

Their warm embraces

My heart, they broke

But now I feel cold

Because they are not here

And I have grown old

And I live in fear

So I sit in my chair

Alone and so glum

While the rain pelts the window

In a gentle thrum

These are the days

That I think of my mum

And of a gentle rhyme

That she used to hum

“Don’t waste your days

While you wander

Through the haze

Set your heart alight

Your soul ablaze

Look out the window

And see the sun’s rays

And to the Lord

You must give praise

For the life he has given you

So please, change your ways”
