Memories

Her happiness is like a veil

Real; but something remains underneath

Even as she laughs

The rope remains around her neck

Even when her heart lights up with love

She remains at the edge of the chair

Even as she is surrounded by loved ones

The scars remain bloody on her arms

Even in her happiest moments

Something shows from behind the veil

She can’t let go of these pieces of inherited memory

It makes me want to cry
