Memories

Fascinated, she touches the flower

Plucks it from its branch

Wears it in her hair.

She scampers with what she imagines

To be horse hooves

Prancing around a field of her own making.

Enthusiastic, she screams on the twisting current,

A roller coaster, a match to her loud voice.

Excited, she explores the park, wanting to ride every ride.

She scampers around, no longer with hooves,

But with the feet

Of a girl whose excitement is tangible.

Secretively, she passes a note in class

To her friend sitting beside her

Just to tell her how much she cares.

Happily, she runs around everywhere

With the same enthusiasm as always

Eager to meet new people and make new friends.

It is easy to let these memories escape,

Seeing them as nothing.

But once the person is gone, you treasure them,

Never let them go.

I think this as I look up to the sky, remembering a girl

Who wanted to be a horse,

But who I imagine is now an angel.
