Memories

Looking back until you feel the time no more Remembering the memories that wash up like sand in a shore Running from them until they haunt you no more Washing clean of them until they won’t taint you any longer Ignoring the paths they’ve set Hoping the fire can burn them like wood Erasing them so the future won’t be set But like water they won’t let you live without them Not allowing for themselves to ever be lost Knotting themselves to you making sure they secure themselves But what are you without them Nothing but a shell For they are the blocks that built you They are what make you you
