Memories Have The Keenest Sense

Memories have the keenest sense For the present can deceive you Your senses can betray you Your eyes alter your perception; Beware of false images and deception Your lips can make you thirst For things that you do not deserve The ears are tuned To only things you want to hear Your senses only lie To please you And to tease you And you do not question it; You decide to remain innocent Innocence should never be confused For ignorance Ignorance is bliss, A sweet, supple kiss; Only a subtle sedation From reality Reality is not even reality at all: It is merely an empty hall Filled with broken promises and lies Which we believe, Time after time The present can neither Present nor represent True senses Only memories are our best defenses Even these can be tainted With a simple lie They can become faded, And even a little jaded But time will pass by, And no one will question why We have all fallen into a state of bliss; A state of ignorance The present can not exist Without this innocence And I shall not hold my pretense Because memories Have the keenest sense
