Memories: An Inspiration for the Future

The night stars shine through the ceiling

Reflecting through my eyes.

I blink to shut out the darkness,

To travel back to a world of under sea voyages and blistering ballrooms.

I do not revisit a particular place,

rather I soar over them all

Brushing my wings against the tips of the trees and blending myself into the pastel sky.

I rest upon the highest peak,

Whether that be a waterfall or the metal that mixes with the clouds clinging to a cathedral.

My past self envisions the future,

pondering the history that unfolded lifetimes ago.

She closes her eyes and dreams of queens and kings dancing across fresh footprints.

These memories are bright,

with the light lifting my heart above the ground.

Yet in the mind there is always darkness,

A forgotten land never to be returned.

In this place sea water shovels up my nose

And seagulls mock my shrieking cries.

This is the land of nightmares

The tide is black

And the sun has set.

The sirens move the waves in a rhythm taunting me to join them beneath the surface.

This vision is archaic,

Long since completed,

So I am free to leave,

No chains hold me to relive the inevitable.

I open my eyes

Sucking myself back to the present.

These places are on repeat in my mind

Pulling at my strings whenever I do wrong.

They are homes of the past

But they house my conscience,

my humor,

my being.

Without them I could never fly along the skyline

promising to change the world,

without them I would be formed unearthly,

So unlike the person I am today.
