The Memory
The memory
Was born that night,
Under the stars,
Waiting to be replayed
Within the dark depths of the brain.
It begins to tease
Throughout the next day,
Pushing past what's important
To be in the forefront
Of every subject, conversation, and thought,
Causing delightful shivers
Running up and down
The spine,
Even if the memory was unwanted
At that particular moment.
The memory fades
In and out of focus
As time passes,
Eventually becoming buried
Under the many new memories,
New experiences,
New dreams accomplished.
One night I sit under the stars,
Sit and reflect,
Pulling out memories
One by one,
Beginning with
The first time I remembered.
Every moment,
I relive,
Closing my eyes and swaying
To the music of joy
And the sorrow of pain.
Then suddenly I come upon
The memory.
The one born that night
Under the stars.
Giving me more life
Than I had experienced
In a long, long time.
A small smile graces my lips
As I replay the memory
Until daylight breaks through
The shadows of the night.
