In Memory of Grandma (06/10/15)
Discomfort fills the air,
Thickly and sweetly,
Suffocating and dank.
Painted smiles on family faces
Crying strangers’ gossip,
Portray a romanticized scene.
The never-ending circle,
Human life is so ephemeral-
-But even more so,
Is this one moment.
So what makes a life?
Not the number of funeral-goers,
Nor the heirlooms left-behind,
Not even standing legacies.
But rather, life is a sum of moments,
A summation of events, of
Lives touched and changed,
Hearts influenced and swayed,
All under the guidance of one hand-
A hand that will continue to
Touch and sway people,
Even from the afterlife.
That is a life well-made,
A life well-lived. May the
Liver of such a life, forever
Bask in the glory of God.
The congregation stands,
Singing ‘Amazing Grace’,
Ruminating and musing,
Reflecting and remembering
A life well-lived.
