Memory: A series of haikus

The greatest treasures

They are buried in the heart

Burned in memory

We often forget

To live without remembrance

Is not life at all

We often forget

To live without remembrance

Is but to exist

We often forget

To live without remembrance

Makes dust of the past

Though we remember

That which can fill with regret

Heartache and darkness

Though we remember

The pain of our human hearts

Our heavy burdens

Still we cry aloud

Oh, what joy to remember!

What marvelous light!

Oh, to remember!

That which fills life with feeling!

Which fills with purpose!

Great and noble ones

Living on through memory

Have not lived in vain!

Oh to remember

What it feels to be alive!

To love and be loved!

And no man may steal

Life times of experience

Knowledge and wisdom

Irreplacable

They are content of the soul

Precious memories

To remember life!

For with the passing of time

All cease to exist.
