Men of Valor

I wake to the sound of gunfire

The sound is deafening

My eyesight is bright

Like thousands of fireflies covering my vision

I roll to the floor

I grab my knife and gun

The cold steel hits my veins

Like heroin hits an addict’s

My mind is like a predator

Seeking blood in the night

I see one

As I rounded a corner

“Filthy terrorist”

Is pounding in my head

The sound of my commander voice

Rings in my ears

I inch closer

And plunge the knife in it throat

As I twist the sound of ripping tissue fuels my anger

Blood spills over my arm

I hear a cry

I quickly turn and shoot

And the sound is like a roar of American blood thirsty patriot

Then silent hits and it’s the worst sound in the world

My vision comes back

Two children lay in front of me

A woman behind

It’s not until seconds later that I finally realized

This is my family

My wife; my kids

No tears come to my eyes

I took my home from myself

And as I put the gun in my mouth

Only these words come to mind

“We live to fight another day
and serve our country without dismay
for those who take us from our homes
May god have mercy on their souls”
