Mental Massacre

Sometimes in a world so dark It's hard not to stray As I watch the ones coming up behind me Silently I pray For a change For a reformation For a metamorphosis A new direction The only thing constant in this world is change Its the libido of our lives Its what our ancestors fought for What we continue to strive towards And what generations to come will master Or so I hope I refuse to be a statistic A manifestation of my generation A product of my race A representation of all these social stigmas Ingrained in our society Shaping our view of what we call the world Within it labeling us as a community Suppressed for a time too long to count Yet nowadays no one resists the mental enslavement Instead we rebel for all the wrong reasons And succumb to the status quo The way it appears to be Not the way it should be No one will fight for us If we don't fight for ourselves If it doesn't stop here The problem will fester on and it will grow Trust me, I know I will rise above all stereotypes And challenge their mental ignorance at all odds These distorted thoughts Created in their minds Housed in their hearts I'm breaking free The change starts with me Vocalized far below the threshold of our natural consciousness If not blatantly bold and boisterous A deafening silence Don't you hear it? These negative vibes They never lie But their smiles are fake And their love is artificial See me, I'm REAL I keeps it real We're allowing for the continuation of the hierarchy What ever happened to our first amendment rights? If every minute of our lives is a minute we will never see again Then why do we allow ourselves to become victim to wasted time? Procrastination is dangerous There's no time better than the present Its now beyond just a physical fight It has evolved into something greater Something more mental I promise, I will rise above it all Creating a dissonance in their minds And what they see I will sacrifice it all For the generation behind me I am a daughter A lady Yet I am so much more A remnant of my history That lingering voice behind the door An idrealist, a believer, a seeker of knowledge A dancer, a writer, a black female in college I question the world I struggle to understand its intent A place to live freely Or a place to constantly vent? Whatever it is I will always be me An inspiration to those who no longer believe A breath of fresh air For those who have given in Prisoners to their own suffering All those who grieve As they struggle with the pollution and contamination of society's ways I will instill in their minds the coming of better days I am a proof of all possibility A friend, a sister, a muse For the ones who have withdrawn from the battle For the ones who refuse To STAND UP I have a voice And when I speak Its meant to be heard That's right I'm breaking free The change begins with me!
