Mentor of Mentors

All my life I looked for the common things,

educational prosperity,

athletic successfulness,

friendly popularity,

entertainment and pleasure,

even the blissful yet elusive relaxation,

but never have I taken the time to peer,

from side to side, above and below,

there beside me,

a coach-like figure,

displaying an innocent gleaming smile,

constantly,

in the days where victory was present,

in the days where these common aspects were not attained,

constantly,

never have I taken the time to notice,

the time and dedication required,

a mentor of mentors,

teaching me all he knows,

and most importantly,

more so than the normal commonalities,

he educated me in the law of common sense,

over my life-time, presenting himself as a role-model,

day in and day out making right decisions, correcting bad habits,

that's the person I aspire to be,

there is no better teacher,

and you are the one this peom is dedicated to,

a mentor of mentors,

my Father.
