The Messenger
DING!!!
My phone alerts me in class.
It's the tenth time since the bell,
And Mr. Jove looks angry.
DING!!!
I can't help getting notifications,
Answering them is who I am.
It's how I stay connected,
Through pictures, videos, and texts.
DING!!!
Posiedon won his water polo game.
DING!!!
Athena got an A on her math test.
DING!!!
Apollo's back from band camp.
DING!!!
Ares got suspended for fighting again.
On and on it goes like this.
All day long,
Connection through communication.
The teacher doesn't understand,
Just how important this is.
DING!!!
HERMES!!! He shouts,
TURN OFF YOUR PHONE!!!
I sink low in my seat,
Knowing what is sure to come.
Any second now...
DING!!!
He storms to my desk,
A trail of fire in his wake.
Then he walks away,
My phone his unwilling prisoner.
Until tomorrow,
When we shall meet again.
My phone that is my world,
Reliable until the very end.
