Messy Girl

You look younger than I thought I did,

Scared of the dark and loud voices.

But you seem stronger than me,

More wild than me.

An angry, anxiety-ridden girl,

Who finds solace only in trees,

And the high shelves of books.

I don't want to forget you.

You will cut your tangled hair short,

Tear the glassed from your face,

And seek comfort in the approval of others.

But I want you to stay messy.

So I can call you up again,

When friends turn away,

When my path is unclear,

When what people give isn't enough to sustain me.

I want to be wild, angry, and messy once more.
