Mexican American Poem

All Mexicans fit the following: loud, breeding, and brown. Fitting every definition to be looked down We all act, think, and speak the same More reasons to be treated like animals that need to be tamed. Living in a society trying to have some value Even when we don’t have enough opportunities to pursue You want your name to be spread out? Only time you’ll hear it is when you’re picking up takeout. They tell you “School isn’t for you, pick up a brick and get to work.” Destined to stay as a carpenter, farmer, or clerk. Our women, yeah they are beautiful. Long black hair, and skin looks like caramel. Cooking and cleaning is their role Having more and more babies is their goal The men must be strong and show no fear Crying is for pussies, boy grab a beer. Preserving your honor and your father’s name Show your mother the great woman you became If you marry anyone out of your race Make sure they’re a social step above you or else you’ll disgrace The family that raised you with all due respect All your actions and your attitudes will reflect The great Mexican American that is yet to come Handsome, strong, beautiful, but all still a chum.
