MIDDLE GROUND

You live here Between the insincerities of words and vacant promises of gifting the moon to the stars Insulting their brilliance because you lack a scale to measure it Somewhere In the grudge between my eyes so cold it singes eyebrows heavy with the sweat of never being enough In the synapses of nerves firing crackled chemical images and sentiments of a country I’m supposed to love Here Amongst the diligent and the nonchalant, constables and thieves Dizzy with uncertainty of where you stand on your platforms But always opposite to my circumstance Glitter to dirt You live On top a stockpile of I told you so’s Reaching for your ego like a loose balloon Only ten feet off the ground And yet we still look to you like ants I live there somewhere Amongst the geometrically correct row homes Snuggled in solidarity and understanding There Greetings consist of a snappy wave and a smile so broad it almost droops at the sides It’s no place for here, For you And I won’t comfort you with the lie that there is nothing and nothing is there
