The Midnight Girl

There once lived a mermaid named Zhavia

She spent her life swimming the seas

She had the gift to control all forms of water

But she wanted a chance to feel the trees

She longed to be a human

With legs instead of a tail

But she couldn’t have her dream

At least, not without a spell

The elder mermaids held potions that could make her dreams come true

But unfortunately there were some difficult things that she had to do

Only the elder mermaids had ever walked land without magic

They say it’s a bad place full of evil people

But Zhavia didn’t believe that was true

From what she observed, it was quite peaceful

On Zhavia’s 18th birthday she decided to go the elders

She was willing to make any sacrifice

The Elders accepted her request

But said, “It comes with strict price”

“If you do not return to the oceans by midnight girl

Then you can’t ever return to your aquatic world”

Zhavia thought about it for a minute

Then she agreed to the demands with a gulp

She wanted to experience life out of water

But was she ready to give it all up?

The Elders gave her a potion with ingredients unknown to her

She then drunk it, followed by a cough and her passing out

She then awoke with legs, no scales, and dry skin

She was a human without a doubt

Luckily the potion had also given her clothes

It would have been cruel to leave her exposed

She met a nice girl with brown eyes named Kali

Kali introduced her to her father and mother

They were all a good-looking group of people

But especially was her brother

They talked and laughed and showed Zhavia around

Zhavia had so much fun that she didn’t watch the clock

And she was dumbfounded at 12 am

When she heard a huge bell go tock

She had completely forgot
