Midnights and Morality

sleep and peace in my mind's eye

waking cold sweats every night

taking a Midnight Swim in the sky

the most I can hope for is to survive

among the stars and blinding lights

we don't need sight where we are going

we won't need to fight, just keep rowing

bathe our scars in the pitch black space

scathe the stars under a sweet embrace

tread water just to find a new home

shed the skin and continue to roam

drink in the light from a thousand suns

shrink back right into a hopeless one

the black hole complex, stressed and left vexed

nothing is fixed only covered and eclipsed

forgotten now are your dreams

rotten now is your serene

no rest for the Midnight Swimmer

the light from your eyes ever dimmer

cling to hope and find rest

tomorrow, just be at your best
