in the midst of it all
dandelion seeds dance in the sky
unaware of the beauty before her
they fall
on her hair
eyelashes
shoulders
in the palm of her hands
the seeds tickle her with love
yet she is still blind
on the other side of the world is a boy
in his lap is a bouquet of dandelions
he sends the seeds on their way
to fall where they may
in hopes that they find somewhere new
to bloom
to grow
to thrive
moment by moment
she feels it
it’s soft
light
delicate
she knows it’s there
but her heart does not
though he has faith that she will
the boy travels
to a new meadow every day
a new dandelion is added to the bouquet
and the lot of seeds that float away become more bountiful
the girl’s vision finally begins to clear
it wasn’t snow falling from the sky
but she had known all along
now to find the boy
behind her back is a bouquet of dandelions
on her sleeve is her heart
and in her mind is the boy
the boy who’s been sending her dandelions
waiting patiently for her to return them
the girl found the boy
but the world around them had perished
the meadow was green no more
and the dandelions withered into mere stems
but the boy accepted them anyway
for he still loved the girl
despite the world crumbling around them
they looked at each other like they were
the stars twinkling in the sky
she was his moon
and he was her sun
she accepted his love
she loved him back
finally
