Mind of Matter

I need to know how to fill out a college app,

and figure out my life road map.

Don’t tell me how to run my life,

but give me tools and teach me how to survive.

If 1+1 is 2 and 2 and 2 four,

how will this help me fix a broken door?

I need practical life skills

to help me pay bills.

I need to know that a smile can get me a job,

not whether a function is even or odd.

If sine over cosine is tangent,

will knowing this help me with life management?

Teach me how to cook,

not through which literary lense to look.

Give me help with the practical stuff,

because academics aren’t enough.

Life is not composed of A’s and B’s

or teachers to please.

It is about relationships and being,

which is what school seems to be missing.
