Mind Over Difference

The only thing on my mind is that of difference
I've connected the dots, sung the song
I've tried to fit in, I've tried to understand
None of it works though, I never belonged
I think of how I'm different every single day

I'm Chemically different, bonds and all
Two carbon, six hydrogen, one oxygen
I see no pleasure in these atoms, but many do
Their perception of life is too askew
Chemical reactions don't make you...you

I am physically different, muscles and all
While you waste the body, treat it like a rusting cage
I adapt, strengthen myself and my will
Plastic capsules and synthetic remedies
Decompose your tendons, ligaments, and mind

I'm mentally different, thoughts and all
I see the potential, I strive for greatness
I try to grow, I try to right the wrongs
One person can change the world, they disagree
I try to be Gatsby and them, just another Tom

I'm emotionally different, happiness and all
Social media is a vaccine combating feelings
"I love you" is just old vocabulary now extinct
People can't speak from their body, nor their hearts
I express how I feel, now just a remnant of the past

I'm philosophically different, morally and all
Deep thoughts deceased, simplicity is despot
Values, morals, all now buried under a sea of ashes
Sex, drugs, greed are ideals people now bathe in
I see the world through the eyes of wind and water

In life I am different, that I know for sure
Everybody is consumed by darkness, enveloping lies
I understand life, an idea polluted by fabricated objects
From the largest galaxy to the smallest neutrino, I see beauty
As darkness engulfs you, I stand tall, proud. Different.
