Mind Reading

Mind Reading

I can read the minds of inanimate things

One time I knew the Listerine was almost out

But I don't even use Listerine, it's my boyfriends

And when I told him I could see he was shocked

- it was his Listerine after all.

I even knew when to clean the coffeepot too,

that this time it needed more than a rinsing.

Or what about when the floor needed to be mopped?

No one else seemed to know to clean the floor or coffeepot,

so I knew that this power was special.

One thing that I’m really good at-

knowing when a blueberry, on the vine, is ripe

which is even more crazy because I’ve never had a garden!

But I got so good at this the summer after second grade

that a neighbor even called my mom about it.

Some things are harder to read- like icy gravel

or stairs. You just can never tell when the universe

wants you flat on your ass.
