Like Mine

I was born into a world where the words that are the foundation of our society are hollow. I was born into the belief that America is the land of the great and the free and the true. I was given the knowlege of corruption and bigotry. I was told that I, one person, could make a difference, but then stifled so that I couldn't. My schools taught me of the rules, the laws. The straight lines and no grey areas. I grew up hearing about the men in the Capitol deciding what I could do with my body and who I could and couldn't love. They were raised in a time where money wasn't strapped and families were united. I wonder how they could survive, growing up in a world like mine, with knowlede like mine? I wonder if they could juggle their responsibilities to the government, to their families, to their schools, their bosses and still love themselves. I have torn myself apart for the sake of others that I love, and I have given so much that I can barely breathe. I wonder how they could live? I wonder if they would still care about who I love and who I can be. Wondering is all it can ever be, unfortunately, because they aren't growing up in a time like mine. They don't have responsibilities like mine. They don't have a life like mine. They aren't me, they're from a different time.
