A Minute

I wonder if I asked nicely

Would the World pause for a mere minute

So I could weep and shriek out my frustration with it

The ache and resentment would seep out my body leaving me at peace

Giving me the strength I need to continue handing out smiles and giggles

Distracting them from the tickling ticking time bomb that is going to implode my mind

Just a mere minute to breathe

Sixty seconds to reset my thoughts

One sixtieth of an hour to calm the storm brewing

Because without a break I can see a flickering flame in the distance carried by a faceless bystander running toward me across the field

And knowing that their injuries will be doubtlessly fatal I curl into the fetal position not ready to fulfill the prophecy that waits

Please, I beg World, could you be merciful by sparing me a mere minute
