Mirror

When you look in the mirror

Who do you see?

The man they’ve always wanted you to be?

Always conforming

Really quite boring

When you look in the mirror

What do you see?

A smile, subtlety

Telling the world you're alright?

But the alibi is less than airtight.

When you look in the mirror

What do you taste?

A longing, congealed like paste?

Or do you taste a sweet wine

Of living done fine?

When you look in the mirror

What do you hear?

Crashing chaos near?

The bells tolling for you?

Or a harsh laugh from a few?

When I look in the mirror

I see a man

Happy, satisfied, he can

Work until he is pleased

For the day has been seized

When I look in the mirror

I see a smile, genuine

And I bask in

Its reverie

My happiness stems from me

When I look in the mirror

I taste satisfaction

I’ve battled through the distraction

I couldn’t whine,

Living is fine

When I look in the mirror

I hear music

A joyous sort of tick

It fills my soul

And every needing hole
