Mirror
I see you daily, I talk to you constantly
I know who you are, your catch-phrases
But it wasn’t until I knew your secrets
That I realized what I see is only what the surface grazes.
Now I look and see tear soaked eyes
I notice the absent looks, the twitches of anger
I begin to see hatred manifest where there was once innocence
And now when I look, my gaze lingers.
We are human, one and the same
You and I can both hurt but never show it
I see a mirror of my pain within you
So I’m not alone, now it is proven.
So much to ask you, so much to say
But how would you respond to such an invasion
You’ve kept it hidden, all the pain you feel inside
So am I really allowed to enter myself into that equation?
But still, I must know why you hide such a secret
It was never your fault, you were so young
Is it like me, your shame hides something deeper?
Like being stared at like this, the words of pity dripping from everyone’s tongue?
Well you will fear no longer, you are not alone
I have seen in your eyes and they are my mirror
Let neither of us feel shamed nor lie any longer
Let us share our secrets, let us break our emotional barrier.
