Mirror

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Tell me I am prettiest of them all

I ask you every day

And I just want to hear you say:

     “You’ve done enough

     With your powder puff

     Your foundation is flawless

     Your eye shadow creaseless

     No pours are visible

     Your lips are so kissable

There are no clumps in your lashes

     No flyaways in your hair-do

No dark circles beneath your eyes

     No wrinkles

     No pimples

     No smearing

     No fading

     No fat

     No scars

     No chipped nails

     There is nothing wrong

     You are perfect in everyway

More beautiful than words can say

You are the prettiest of them all

I should know, for I am the mirror on the wall”

But you are only a mirror

And mirrors can’t talk

You say what my mind makes you say

And so says that mirror:

     “You are inferior

     You are nothing but flaws

When you smile like that, your face looks sort of cross

I guess you can ask again tomorrow

See if you’re pretty a different day

     But, I assure you

     looking like this

     you will never be enough.”
