Mirror Image

Reflected in the soft light A person I know so clear Every detail known to me Working hard to become ... To become what? What is it that I'm striving for? The soft bristles of a brush Caressing the blank sheet And I stop Working hard to create ... To create what? What is it I want to create? Stepping up to the plate In charge of all the action But I turn silent Working hard to lead ... To lead what? Why do I want to lead? I'm losing myself Slowly But surely I am losing what I once knew by heart I turn and I am startled Startled by a girl She's scared She seems confused I feel like I know her She seems familiar I lean forward to touch to see if she's real Only cool glass Only a mirror If that's a mirror though, ... Why can't I recognize myself?
