Mirror Me

How are you just like me?

Different in background,

yet similar in the contrasts on the walls we were or still confined in.

Different in sadness,

yet similar in our tears, and the way they travel down our faces,

searching for meaning, longing for hope.

It is in the way we view society,

with it's sensitive yet judgmental, hypocritical, and superficial ways

That makes us form questions, about the heavens above,

That forms our dreams for a positive future, i pray that i'm apart of.

Is it that we are just too naive for the government, is it true that our votes count but our voice doesn't count?

Is that really how nations came to be?

No violence necessary, was once "by any means necessary" and still we are

trying to decode the true meaning.

Advancing in time, yet taking so many steps back,

we can't seem to find common ground.

Still we band together in the midst of it all.

It makes me wonder, if the dreams of the greats for a better future

died in vain.

As they left us with this message, to be said time and time again:

United we stand, divided we fall.
