Mirror, Tell Me

The sun rises, then so do I

I turn off my alarm, get ready for school

I turn to the mirror, and see myself

Wild hair, bags under my eyes, not-so-white teeth

Nothing special

Nothing worth noticing

Nothing beautiful

So I ask the mirror, “What do people see?”

Tell me

Do they see how tired I am inside?

Do they see how empty I feel?

Do they see how much I lust for their acceptance?

“No” says the mirror

“All they see is a girl with wild hair and tired blue eyes”

So I cover the bags, tame my hair, plaster on a smile

Now they see who I want to be

Who I wish I was

A confident happy girl with has no worries in the world

   Little do they know…
