Mirrors

Mirrors A little child, so soft and warm, Giggling and smiling in the mirror, Seeing her reflection for the very first time, Her father smiling beside. Giggling and smiling in the mirror, Is a trio of small girls playing pretend, Their fathers smiling nearby, The girls all dressed in pink princess gowns. A trio of teenage girls before prom, Glancing once more in the mirror, The girls all dressed in pink princess gowns, Their fathers watching, as nervous as they. Glancing once more in the mirror, A beautiful woman, dressed in white, Her father sees, with tears in his eyes, Watching his daughter become another’s. A beautiful woman, dressed in black, Watching through a mirror as her father dies, Remembering all the mirrors through which her father saw her, Watching her father become His.
