Misconstructed Concepts from Disney's Princesses

Do not mistake a boy who wears faded t-shirts and hoodies scented with the sweetest cologne for a knight in shining armour. Chances are he will not come and rescue you when you really need him to. Keep in mind that he does not carry a sword and shield with him, he is probably too busy fighting in his own war.

Do not sleep your whole life away hoping that a prince will walk by and save you from your own nightmare. If you are afraid of falling asleep for too long, set up an alarm clock. Let the ringing finally put some sense into your mind. Plug in a night light if you are afraid of the monsters under your bed.

You are not a damsel in distress. The only one keeping you locked high up in that tower of stone is yourself. Let the walls slowly crumble to the ground. Rebuild a new defense, but this time make sure you let yourself out before. If you are not willing to trust yourself, what makes you think you can trust a stranger scaling up those fragile walls to not take you down with him?

Stop trying to change yourself to fit him. Sure, Prince Charming carried around a shoe proclaiming that his true love would fit it. But do not force yourself to mold into a shape that you are not comfortable with. Instead, find a shoe that fits perfectly without even trying.

There is no safe haven in the woods. Only hooded men lurking in the shadows live in the woods. Do not mistake a lovely smile and soothing voice as a helping hand. Hands tend to wander to places we did not expect it to.

You do not need the waistline of a princess, or hair as yellow as gold, or skin as pale as snow to be beautiful. Beauty is a wide spectrum of different sizes and colors. Stop comparing yourself to the cartoon figures, you are worth more than just what your body has to offer, they are only as real as the screens they are seen on.

Do not believe you can turn a beast into a loving man. He knows how to play these games far better than you do. There will always be things you cannot change about him.

Love at first sight is unrealistic. You only fall in love with looks and the way they carry themselves at first glance. Do not trust your eyes, his beauty is not the same inside and out. Get to know him like the back of your hand before saying that you love him.

Do not sacrifice your voice for a boy that you’ve never spoken to before. Do not hold your tongue because he likes you better when you are quiet, bellow out his name, laugh as loud as your heart desires, scream at the top of your lungs.

Do not limit yourself to certain looks and attitudes. Love knows no boundaries, it isn’t something you can predict. Stop judging based on clothing or riches because not all that glitters is gold. It is time we started loving people for they are and not how we expected.
