An item brought out to play
An item pushed away
Never for long,
but the feelings are always the same,
Strong

For awhile I was a book.
I entertained her on friday nights
she used me as a glimpse to another world
she no longer reads.
Her fridays are spent with a boy.
She took her time looking
then set down the book.

Next I was a mirror.
I showed them the picture they had already memorized,
for awhile they looked and were amused.
They no longer look
there is nothing to see.
They enjoyed the reflection
then grew bored, turning form the mirror.

Now I am a string.
I feel like I have been a string the longest,
the couple uses me as a lifeline.
Soon I will be gone
and so will their lifeline
and they will split
then end with a snap of the string.

An item brought out to play
An item pushed away
Never for long,
but the feelings are always the same,
Strong.

Maybe it's right
Maybe wrong,
but I don't hate them for what they do
I do it too
I bring them in
then push them away
In the end we are all the same.
Nothing but a misplaced item.
