Misquoted

“Our students are amazing”
High competition, ‘must be the best’
‘Can’t compete on that level, well you’re just a mess’
Parade around the preferred ten percent
While the rest sit behind, feeling indecent

“We ensure our school has the best in technology”
My project screen suddenly turns black
Another three hours I’ll never get back
Jabbing the power button, pulling the cords
While yelling at a monitor from 2004

“We offer a wide arrange of classes for all of our students”
Spanish, your only language choice
Any other heritage has no voice
No performing arts, dance, or theatre
We only have three Arts & Humanities electives to take here

“The highest respect for the ethics code”
‘Wait that was due today, can I borrow yours?’
And the note with the test answers lands on the floor
'honestly I haven’t seen him do his own work in a year’
And the teachers somehow never hear

“Our school is the best”
I can’t contain the bitter chuckle
As I try to piece together this messy puzzle
The school I am scripted to tell people is great
Is the school I've spent four years trying to escape.
