Missing Pictures

My young ears could hear

The sheer fear that was near

Tuck me in, despite your eyes full of fright

Whisper everything's alright

Kiss me goodnight then turn off the light

Despite of the fact you're about to fight

I lay awake and debate

Dreams of a blank slate,

With a life that is great

The promises you made were easy to break

A room full of memories shattered on the floor

Like it didn't happen

Did before even matter?

I close my eyes and pray for a change

Only to wake and see a black bag packed

Mom picking up glass all bruised and black

Picture frames weren't the only thing cracked

The memories of a picture perfect family destroyed

Our house is a broken home

You kept letting him back

He promised not to do it again

But you didn't know for a fact

That black eye must have made you crack

Now close the door and tell him never to come back

So we can put the pieces he broke intact, the family cast

Move on from the passed blast, leave the broken pictures cracked in the past
