Misunderstood

Koku! koku! koku!

She hears her mother’s stern voice

Instantaneously she wriggles out of the fireplace

This child behaves like a boy her mother exclaims in annoyance

Koku! Koku! Koku!

She wants to climb trees and run around like Tobu

But she crawls back to her tea party

Mommy smiles when she pretends to like the dolls

Koku! Koku!Koku!

She breaks into a knowing smile

A grown woman now and her mother still disapproves

Her smile speaks of an ache to be seen

To be understood
