Mocking Book
They stand there and they mock
Mock me in my pain.
I sneak a glance at the clock
Don’t they understand what I’m trying to gain?
I move closer so I can see all of them,
And all of them can see me.
I stare until the words start to blend
And am perfectly aware that they were all made from a tree.
The pages sit and wait for feeling
Trying to pull me in.
The pages sit and wait for meaning
Trying to make me grin.
They stand there and they mock
Mock me in my pain
Sitting there and staring
What is it that they gain?
I scoot across the floor
My socks collect the dust
My hand reaches for the door,
But then I think, ‘I must’
Reaching for the one on top
It weighs heavily in my hand
Falling into the chair with a flop
I watch the others stand
They stand there and they mock
Mock me in my pain
Waiting for my next move
I think they know that I am about to train.
I open it up and turn the page
Throwing a quick glance across the room
This one is filled with rage
But the characters are just starting to bloom
The tale goes on and my eyes covet more
The others are getting restless
Unaware of what I have in store
They stand there and they mock
Mock me in my pain
This one is almost over
But what have I managed to gain?
The words told me what I desired
Sitting in my window nook
They told me that I would aspire
To read another book
