A Modern Desdemona's Lamentations

To My Modern Othello: I fell hard for you; I’d fallen to the ground. Yet somehow, simultaneously, we defied gravity And our force could never be bound. We had so much in common! With you I spent my time. I heeded not my enemies, For I believed it to be fine But they filled your head with poison, I swore it wasn’t true. But despite all of my pleading, You let the lies asphyxiate you. And I had thought you loved me! Was this not the case? How then could a love like ours end in such haste? Then you claimed it wasn’t so, The poison was gone from sight. I saw a glimmer of hope, The promise of new light. My dreams were shortly crushed, I guess I knew it was lie. You let their poison slither inside of you, So I stopped trying…trying to try. Now I feel gravity, With new chains I’ve bound. A piece of me is still in you, And it will never be found. I want to say it was no fault of yours, But that is an obvious lie, These are YOUR tears that stain my face, YOU made me cry. Now I keep my distance; I still keep my space. They have stopped poisoning you, Yet I can’t bear look upon you face. Othello, it’s your Desdemona. The years may go by, But I’ll never forget The poison that made you blind.
