Modern Solutions
It may seem like we are alone
That the Gods have all but died out
Left us on a dying planet too small for our universal wars.
This is false.
The Gods live amongst us,
Using their omnipotence for modern solutions
Aphrodite is the marriage counselor at the edge of the city
There to help mend a broken heart or help one to grow
Queen Hera as her business rival in the center of town.
The two of them meeting in the night for a cheap but fulfilling drink
Hermes despises his desk job as CEO of an international shipping company
He misses the days of freedom he had before he accepted the position
Dionysis often teases him about it, having taken a similar path
Becoming a freelancing wine-producer and party host
Poseidon has become a powerful advocate for the protection of sea life
Spending half of his time at aquariums as a tour guide
And the other half at rallies and community efforts to save his subjects.
He will never say it, but a part of him prefers this to ruling a kingdom alone.
Demeter is by his side, fighting battle after battle for her mother Gaia
Protesting oil production and the burning of fossil fuels
Her daughter Persephone helping her to develop an eco-friendly solution
to the world-destroying, man-made production line that she so despises
Ares has unsurprisingly grown more powerful in the more violent past decade.
While he thrives on the constant battles between the people,
he is always there to tilt the balance against those aiming to harm specific groups.
He governs the untamed aspect of war, not the targeted bullets.
Athena still leads armies to the endless wars
but does so with a captain’s badge strapped to her chest,
her soldiers in blue ready to fight the battles her brother sometimes assist in,
but nonetheless, she works to make her streets as safe as they can be.
Apollo and Artemis are still avoiding each other, as siblings do
But they can be seen sometimes at hospitals, bringing light to the children’s ward
Artemis helping her huntresses tend to the newborns and mothers
Apollo singing lullabies to the sick
Hades is unheard of these days
The other Gods know that he still resides in the Underworld
But there are rumors of him appearing to those who are willing to visit his realm early
And keeping them in the mortal realm a while longer with kind words masked with a disdain for paperwork.
And Zeus. Where has the King of the Gods gone?
Well, much like his brother, his presence is a whisper on his winds.
But his power can be felt in the ever-increasing power of the storms.
His children and siblings worry about him but dare not question his will.
We are not alone
The Gods live and thrive alongside us
Fighting for the breathing planet and the end of the countless wars
And at the center of it all, Hestia smiles, her hearth burning brighter than ever
As her family does what it needs to keep themselves alive
