Modern Tragedy

It was really rather tragic

The way things turned out

I loved you and you loved me

But that wasn’t enough, clearly

It started out with “I love you” and ended with “I wish I never met you”

You told me that you loved me

Yet you treated me like the dirt beneath your shoe

Your words rained down on me, pummeling me

They echo in my mind every time I speak, every time I have a moment to myself

I can’t remember anything else when it comes to you

None of the happiness, none of the memories

You tell me that you love me, that you would never say that

That you’re sorry and that you want me back

But all I hear are your stinging words

Your vehement hatred for me

It is a tragedy that this is what it came to

For we truly loved each other

But I cannot just look past this

I cannot forget

I cannot forgive

Those words cannot be taken back
