Molly and the Bean Stock

The “big kids” walk into the room

I am a small nervous second grader

and my new reading buddy is from a fifth grade class

I am a pea and they are all bean stocks

“Hello Ben”

My new reading buddy from a fifth grade class

pulls out a beautiful picture book and begins to read

but I don’t pay attention

because he is a magical big kid

I open the door to the high school and it makes the silent sort of noise

the silent sort of noise that whispers motivation

and I step into the high school not knowing who I am

And senior year runs right into me

I am stunned and confused

knowing only that

I am no longer a pea, but a bean stock
