Mom

Mom

The news that I was to arrive was a bit Earth shattering,

Too scared to run, too scared to face it.

19 still so young,

Yet now time to grow up.

What to do,

What to do?

November of ’96 I arrived,

Still you were scared and unsure.

Yet you didn’t give up,

You conquered your biggest fear.

Single mom you thought you’d be,

Then came dad.

Your saving grace,

Better than that sperm donor.

Still scared you were,

But still persevering.

You didn’t know it,

But you were doing great.

All the sleepless nights,

All the doctor visits.

All the late night chats,

All the things you’ve done for me,

Never go unnoticed.

Here I am,

19 years later thanking you.

You gave me life,

Purpose and drive.

You are the reason,

For all of my success.

I strive to make you proud,

In everything that I do.

That’s why this poem,

Is written for you.

You are my person,

That I can’t live without.

Life may take me down paths without you,

But we will forever be close at heart.
