Mom

From the time I was born,

You were there to nurture.

You told me "I'd do great things,"

In the future.

You have blessed me with your patience,

And kindness of heart.

Guiding me on my path,

Wondering where to start.

You held my hand through it all,

The lows and the highs.

And I can never remember a time,

When you weren't a shoulder there to cry.

You're encased with compassion,

A bitter sweet soul.

But nothing would prepare me,

For when you were about to blow.

"Don't mess with mom when she is angry,"

My dad would say.

My siblings and I,

Chose to stay away.

You were rarely angry,

Patient with us all.

But man I sure wanted to cry,

When you had that down fall.

At the dinner table,

Enjoying game night.

When in a matter of seconds,

You were not alright.

Fear in your eyes,

You could not talk.

For a stroke had occured,

Which left you with writer's block.

I stood hugging you,

Scared that I had lost.

The one person I helped,

No matter the cost.

Days in the hospital,

You regained your speech.

But I will never be the same,

From the day that would teach.

To love your mother,

Day in and day out.

Because no matter how hard you wish,

She won't always be around.
